Tamara Sue Marsh Ahlstrom was born May 9, 1963, to Robert Lindsey and Judith Brinkerhoff Marsh in West Valley City, Utah. She has two other brothers from this marriage: Bobby and Rick. When she was about 2 or 3, Robert and Judy divorced. Judy met and married Ronald Boyer. From this marriage 3 more siblings were born; Ronnie, Roger, and Michelle. The family moved to Manti, Utah when she was 13. Tammy loved all of her brothers and sister but was especially close to her older brother Bobby when she was younger. Bobby drowned in the Jordan River while fishing when he was 10. She was very sad because she thought so much of him.
While in school in Manti, Tammy had many friends. Based on the signatures and notes in her yearbooks, she must have been quite popular and well liked. She continued to have strong and lasting relationships with many of these friends throughout her life. She loved to dance. She was on the High School Drill Team and in a college dance group. She was also a member of the FFA. Tammy was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She had many good friends that helped her stay active, but she also had a strong innate connection to spiritual things. She learned to love Jesus Christ at an early age and wanted to please Him and show her devotion by keeping His commandments and serving Him.
After high school she attended Snow College. Her second year there she met her future husband, John. She saw him in church one day 3 days after his return from his mission and thought to herself, “I’m going to marry that guy.” Tammy’s and John’s roommates all became very good friends as they were also a “Family-Home-Evening family”. They did many activities together including going to dances and having campfires in the nearby canyons. The group even hiked down and camped in the Grand Canyon together on spring break.
After graduating from Snow College, Tammy and John were married in the Salt Lake City Temple on August 17, 1984. They moved to Logan, Utah where John finished his schooling. While there, Julia and John Jr. were born. Shortly after moving to Caliente in 1988, James was born, followed by Jennifer, Jacob, Jana, and Joanna. Tammy always knew she would have a large family and even had spiritual experiences revealing some of her children to her before they were born. She took her mothering seriously. She prayed for her children and had many things revealed to her to help her in raising them and caring for them. She spent countless hours with her children, regularly staying up late helping them with their homework and having mom-daughter-son talks.
She loved to dance and camp and walk and cook and laugh and serve. She was part of Mindy Anderson’s dance group for several years and made sure her daughters had opportunities to dance as well. She was a 4-H leader for several years and then the president of the County 4-H program for a few years. She helped coach t-ball and little league baseball for many years and helped with the PTO. She served in many capacities in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints including visiting teacher, Young Women leader, Primary teacher, service missionary, ward missionary, Primary President and Relief Society Presidency. She loved the Cub Scouts, serving as a den leader for many years and as a pack chairman and cubmaster. She worked at the district level of cub scouts teaching and helping others by putting on several day camps and other events for the boys. She was awarded a district scouting award and was so proud of receiving recognition from the council when she received the “Influential Women in Scouting” award. She volunteered at the elementary school for several years, mostly helping with the kindergarten children. She felt so blessed and needed to be able to help the young children and make a difference in their lives. She took her mothering, church callings and community jobs very seriously, working hard to do her best.
She loved Jesus Christ. She loved serving Him and serving others. She was close to Him and knew when the Holy Ghost was communicating with her. She wanted so much to do the right things and be as clean and pure as possible. She loved worshiping in the temple. She would share her testimony often. A few times she invited homeless people into her home to spend the night and cook them meals because she was worried they would freeze. While there, they were taught portions of the gospel of Jesus Christ by word and deed.
Tammy was diagnosed with Alzheimers in 2017. She knew what was coming because she knew others in Caliente with this same disease. She wanted to stay in Caliente until she died because she knew there were plenty of good people here to help her and love her and keep her safe. She dearly loved the people in this county and developed many friendships and strong relationships through her service and experiences.
She finished her mortality on February 25, 2025 at the age of 61. She was preceded in death by her brothers Robert and Ronnie, and father Robert Marsh. She is survived by her husband John and 7 children: Julia (Wiley Bradshaw), John Jr. (Angela), James (Laura), Jennifer, Jacob, Jana (Brendan) Flanary, and Joanna (Zach) Johnson, 11 1/2 grandchildren, her parents Judy and Richard Davis, siblings: Rick (Janette) Marsh, Roger Boyer, and Michelle (Dwayne) Bolt.
