Max William Singleton "Poppy"

Our loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great grandfather, Max William Singleton, “Poppy”, passed away August 14, 2014 in West Valley City, Utah. He was born to Mary and Bill Singleton in Milford, Utah, January 13, 1927. Max graduated from Lincoln High in Panaca, Nevada in 1945. He was married to Margaret Lillian Hendrickson, June 1, 1946, and sealed in the St. George Temple, April 5, 1989. Max served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a mine sweeper in Chesapeake Bay and later in San Francisco Bay. He retired from Lucky Markets where he worked as a bakery supervisor. As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he served in various callings including 18 years as a Scoutmaster. Max loved gardening, baking bread, wood-working, bird feeders were his specialty, and loving and serving his family and friends; especially his beautiful wife for 68 years. He is survived by his wife Lillian, children Steve (Virginia) Singleton, Suzette Dayton; brothers Charles (Mariba) Singleton, Vance Singleton; as well as grandchildren Matt (Karilee) Dayton, Rebecca (Richard) Simko, Courtney Singleton, and Sara (Nathan) Farrer; and great- grandchildren Ryan, Cameron, Rachel, Aimee, Logan, Lilly, and Harrison. Max chose to donate his eyes for medical research. Our beloved “Poppy” will be missed by everyone who knew him. A viewing will be held for family and friends Friday, August 22, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at Southern Nevada Mortuary in Caliente, Nevada. A graveside service will follow at 12:00 noon in the Veterans Conaway Cemetery under the direction of Southern Nevada Mortuary.
