Lea Ann Mathews, beloved sister, mother, wife, and grandmother, died Sunday, October 13. She was 72.
Lea Ann was born in Cedar City, Utah, to Frank and Portia Brinkerhoff. She was raised in Flowell, Utah, as the youngest of six children. In 1969, she married Phillip Mathews and relocated to his hometown of Panaca, Nevada, where they would raise their three children.
Throughout her life, Lea Ann was an active member of the LDS church and had a strong testimony of the gospel. During the waning days of her life, her strong faith remained a comfort and it guided her through.
Lea Ann was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Gladys Poe. She is survived by her husband and their three children, Myron (Stephanie); Annette Griggs (Nik); and Elise Bauman; as well as siblings Gene, Ike, Ern, and Gwen Romans; and grandsons Travis Bauman and Martin Griggs. She will be lovingly remembered by nephews, nieces, cousins, grandnephews, and grandnieces too numerous to name, including Larissa Frehner, who was a source of support and love to her in her final years.
Lea Ann left a legacy of loving care and selfless, simple giving to her family, friends, and community. Funeral services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building in Panaca on Saturday, October 19, 2019, at 11:00 am. Interment will be in the Panaca Cemetery under the direction of Southern Nevada Mortuary.
