Frank Waldo Simkins passed away May 4, 2015 in Parowan, Utah. He was born in Caliente, Nevada on February 20, 1936, the fifth of six children to Waldo and Peggy Simkins. For the first part of his life he lived in Barclay, Nevada, where he learned to love working with cattle and horses. He would rather be out working cattle on a good horse than anywhere else. In 1959 he married Chloe Wadsworth. Frank worked construction in Las Vegas for many years. He finally said that he would rather starve then continue to work all week in Las Vegas. He never went back and he never starved. For eight years he worked as a ranch manager in Rose Valley, Nevada. It was there he and Chloe had their daughter, Tara, after being married for 13 years. When Tara started kindergarten they moved to Panaca, Nevada where he would live for the rest of his life. Frank hired on with the Lincoln County Road Department which was the perfect job for him. He was able to work in the hills of Lincoln County grading the county roads. Many times he would grade old forgotten roads for other ranchers, giving them easier access to the ranges and their cattle. Working for the Road Department gave him time to have his own cattle. He was a skilled cattleman and horseman and above all he was an honest and hardworking man. Frank was quick to help other cattlemen, family, and friends in whatever was needed. Frank enjoyed watching rodeos, especially bull riding. He enjoyed listening to old time country music and identified himself with Porter Wagner’s song, “A Satisfied Mind.” Frank loved children and no matter what he was doing, always had time for them. He loved to tease and was fun to be around. He enjoyed jumping in the truck and going for rides with his longtime friend, Kenny Lee, nieces and nephews, or anyone he could get to ride along with him. He dearly loved his family and although he made the best of it, he sorely missed his wife Chloe after her passing.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Chloe, his parents Waldo and Peggy, two brothers K and Keith, and two sisters Hazel and Muriel. He is survived by his beloved daughter Tara, brother Dan (Connie) and many nephews and nieces. He will be missed by many.
A graveside memorial to celebrate his life will be held at the Panaca Cemetery on May 30 th at 10:00 am Nevada time with a luncheon at the Panaca LDS Chapel immediately following the service. Arrangements were under the direction of the Southern Nevada Mortuary.
