Charles R Singleton

Charles (Chuck) R. Singleton passed away at the age of 95 in Cedar City, Utah, on March 28, 2024. He was born on March 10, 1929, in Milford, Utah, to William Richard and Mary Kemp Singleton. His family moved to Caliente, Nevada, when he was nine years old. He attended Caliente Elementary School, Lincoln County High School in Panaca, Nevada, and Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, for one semester.
He married Mariba Ariane Yoacham on June 6, 1950, in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They had three daughters: Geri Lee, Karen Patrice and Sue. They lived and worked on the Yoacham ranch until 1961, when they moved their house to Caliente, remodeling and expanding it.
Charles was a hard worker. As a young man, he worked at various jobs, including baling hay on the Conway Ranch and working in the meat department of OP Skaggs in Caliente. After graduating from high school he was employed by Union Pacific Railroad for a time. He worked for Mariba's father on the Yoacham ranch and later worked for three and a half years on a research project testing cattle for the University of Nevada. He was offered a job for the University of Nevada in Reno but chose to stay in Caliente. He was then hired by the Nevada State Highway Department, became a foreman, and continued to work for the State until his retirement in 1993.
Charles served faithfully in many callings in the Caliente Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including scout leader, counselor in the ward bishopric for 11 years, and bishop for 6 years. He and Mariba served as workers in the St. George Temple for approximately 10 years and served a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Wellington New Zealand Mission from September 1996 to March 1998.
Charles loved the outdoors, riding horses, dutch oven cooking, and being with his family. He learned how to make Mariba's wheat bread after she had shoulder surgery. He loved baking bread and gave many of his loaves to friends and neighbors. His family loved his applesauce pie and applesauce cake. His grandchildren have many special memories of jeep rides down Rainbow Canyon and dutch oven dinners in the backyard.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mariba, his parents and his two brothers. He is survived by his daughters: Geri (Glen) Miller of Orem, Utah; Karen (Mike) Tobler of Caliente, Nevada; Sue (Loren) Bradshaw of Caliente, Nevada; 12 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., with a viewing from 10:00-10:45 a.m., on Friday, April 5, 2024, in the Caliente Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1100 Front Street, Caliente, Nevada. For livestream of the service please use the link below.
